Warwick is located in central Rhode Island. It was the site of the Gaspée affair, when the first shot was fired during the American Revolution in June of 1772. It all began when local patriots boarded the Gaspée, a British ship that carried British officers that had been enforcing the Stamp Act and Townshend Acts. The commanding officer, Lieutenant Duddingston, was shot in his crotch while resisting the taking of his ship.
