Rogers woman pleads guilty to manslaughter

A Rogers woman pleaded guilty today to a manslaughter charge related to a Springdale home invasion that ended with a man being killed by the resident. Kaili Brooke Cogdill, 21, also pleaded guilty to accomplice to residential burglary, two counts of forgery, failure to appear and a probation revocation, according to Sara Swearengin, deputy prosecutor.

Lane closures set along I-49 tonight

Drainage work on Interstate 49 shoulders in Johnson and Springdale will require overnight lane closings tonight, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said. Crews installing temporary barrier walls on the inside shoulders in both directions north of the Clear Creek bridge for 2 miles initially will require the northbound inside lane to be closed from 8 p.m. today to 6 a.m. Tuesday and the southbound inside lane to be closed between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. the same days, weather permitting.

Demolition uncovers Arcade Hotel wall

But workers recently demolished a building on Emma Avenue, uncovering a brick wall with two ghost signs that read Arcade Hotel -- one vertical and one horizontal. It was the original east wall of the Arcade Hotel, said Marie Demeroukas, photo archivist and research librarian at Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale.

State to sue Arkansas college for return of kickback-tainted grants

The Department of Finance and Administration has asked state Attorney General Leslie Rutledge's office to sue Ecclesia College to reclaim at least $600,000 of kickback-tainted grants the college received from the General Improvement Fund. "It appears that a significant portion, if not all, of these funds were procured in coordination with criminal activity that has been and is being prosecuted by the United States attorney's office," Larry Walther, director of the state's department of finance and administration, wrote to Deputy Attorney General Monty Baugh in a letter dated Sept.

Sharon Berkstresser, 78, was last seen at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at her home, according to a press release from the department. Berkstresser often walks around her neighborhood in north Springdale which is also close to the Razorback Greenway, the release said.
