Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare disclosed for the first time Wednesday that the Elorza administration has agreed to increase the amount the city pays a company that oversees its controversial speed camera program, sending the chairman of the City Council Finance Committee into a fit of rage. State Police: Driver slams into trooper's cruiser

Rhode Island State Police are urging drivers to keep their eyes in front of them when they see emergency lights after a car smashed into the back of a state police cruiser late Tuesday night on Route 6. State police told Eyewitness News the driver, Chheng Long, 52, of Providence, said he was disoriented by the flashing lights of numerous police vehicles at the scene, and didn't stop in time for the cruiser that was parked in front of him. Prior to this crash, police said the driver of another car crashed into a barrier on Route 6 West, causing a light pole to fall into the highway, affecting traffic on both sides.

RI union wants courthouse shut down due to bed bugs

A union representing court clerks and deputy sheriffs in Rhode Island is asking for the state judiciary to close the Garrahy Judicial Complex Court spokesperson Kara Picozzi confirmed last week that bed bugs had been found on the fifth floor of the courthouse, where family court is located. But Picozzi has not answered questions about the bed bugs since then, including whether more bugs have been found and what was done over the weekend to treat the building.
