2 Hampton Roads residents killed on motorcycle in North Carolina; 17-year-old charged

Two Virginia residents on a motorcycle died Sunday night when a vehicle pulled in front of them as they rode down U.S. 17. Charles Bryan, 59, of Portsmouth, and Melissa Brooks, 42, of Chesapeake, were killed about 9 p.m. when 17-year-old Brye Baker attempted a left turn into their path at the intersection of U.S. 17 and U.S. 158, , said Sgt. E.J. Forbes of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

A teenage burglary suspect who was shot by a Portsmouth police officer last October pleaded guilty to five felonies Tuesday, including armed burglary. Deontrace Ward, 19, pleaded guilty to armed burglary, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit armed burglary, conspiracy to commit larceny and possession of a firearm by a convicted felony in Portsmouth Circuit Court.
