Investigation into National City councilwoman moves forward

City leaders in National City decided Tuesday to move forward with an outside investigation into whether Councilwoman Mona Rios violated state law as former president of the Rotary Club, which failed to file tax forms to the IRS and pay rent to the city while Rios was at the helm. In a 3-1 vote, Mayor Ron Morrison and Councilmen Albert Mendivil and Jerry Cano went against input from acting City Attorney Nicole Pedone, who told the City Council the matter was outside the purview of the city.
