Tustin obstetrician placed on probation after woman dies following childbirth

The Medical Board of California has placed a Tustin-based obstetrician on probation for three years for failing to properly manage preeclampsia, a dangerous condition during pregnancy that is characterized by high blood pressure and protein in the urine, which the board says led to a woman's death in 2011. According to a ruling issued by the board last month, Yuki Kashiwabara, who is also on the medical staff of Hoag Hospital, was placed on probation effective Feb. 2. Kashiwabara will be allowed to practice while on probation, but will be monitored to make sure she is compliant with the terms of her probation, said Oscar Villatoro, spokesman for the Medical Board.
