About: surprise, arizona

Surprise is a city located in central southwestern Arizona. It was founded in 1938 by Homer C. Ludden, a real estate developer and state legislator. He named the Arizona town after his hometown, Surprise, Nebraska. In the 1990s tens of thousands of retirees moved to Surprise to live in Sun City Grand, a resort-like retirement community with homes built by Del Webb. Today the population is comprised of a majority of people over the age of 45, perhaps due to the Sun City Grand population.
