Rogers is a city located in northwestern Arkansas. The city was named in honor of Captain Charles Warrington Rogers who was vice president and general manager of the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad, also known as the Frisco Railroad. When the Frisco Railroad arrived in 1881 the town was established, naming itself after Captain Rogers. The city was the site of the first Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer. Rogers is also home to the headquarters of Daisy Outdoor Products which is known for its air rifles.

Work on Interstate 49 in Rogers, Lowell and Springdale will require overnight lane closures for six days beginning today, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said. The state's Charter Authorizing Panel on Wednesday approved a 1,000-student increase to 3,000 for the Arkansas Virtual Academy after the school's leader described steps taken by the school to improve data reports to the state. The panel's unanimous vote -- which is subject to Arkansas Board of Education review for a final decision -- comes after the school's leader in February withdrew a similar request to raise the enrollment cap because of the panel's concerns about errors in the school's reporting.

Bentonville motorcyclist killed in crash with tractor near Rogers

Arkansas State Police say 38-year-old Shawn Leverich of Bentonville died in the crash near Rogers on Tuesday. A police report says Leverich was westbound on Pleasant Ridge, southwest of Highway 12E, when the motorcycle he was driving went off the roadway in a curve and crashed into the front of the tractor that was mowing alongside the roadway.
