Poway is located in southern California in San Diego County. It was incorporated in 1980. The city is named after the Poway Creek which runs through the city. Artifacts including arrow heads, spear points, mutates, grinding stones and pottery have been found along the riverbed of the Poway Creek. These artifacts indicate to archeologists that there was a Diegueno Native American tribe presence in the region.
