This was because there were a large number of cutlery and related products, which were manufactured in Meriden by companies such as International Silver and Meriden Cutlery. Also, in 1832, Charles Parker and his brother founded a manufacturing factory that produced steam engines, train wheels, printing presses, and piano stools.
