Aliso Viejo is located along the coast bordering the Pacific Ocean in southern California. The land where Aliso Viejo now sits was originally sold to Juan Avila by the Mexican government in 1842 before the US-Mexican War. In the 1890s Avila sold 22,000 acres to the Moulton family, who used the land as a ranch. In 1976 the Mission Viejo Company purchased the remaining 6,600 acres to build a planned community. And in 2001, Aliso Viejo was incorporated, making it Orange County, California's newest addition.

Lennar Multifamily Communities is pressing forward with plans for a new downtown Long Beach apartment complex after a nearly decade-long pause in the project's development. Called Oceanaire, the 216-unit apartment complex has been under construction at 150 W. Ocean Blvd. since September, Lennar Multifamily executive Ryan Gatchalian said.

The Aliso Viejo City Council got its first look at the 2017-18 fiscal year draft budget on Wednesday, April 19, which showed general fund revenues could increase by almost 7 percent. The draft budget predicted the city will receive approximately $23 million in resources for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1 - an increase of nearly $800,000 from the previous fiscal year.

El Segundo police seek identity of forgery/check theft suspect

Police are looking for a woman who cashed two checks stolen in early March from an office at 909 N. Sepulveda Blvd. in El Segundo. On March 22, the woman and a man posed as a couple "in need" and coaxed two customers at Bank of America branches in Santa Ana and Aliso Viejo to cash them for a total of $4,762.50.
